Last week I was talking to a friend about how the Lorna Byrne Children’s Foundation has been going for five years, you may have seen the celebrations this week on my social media, and how when I look back, it’s unbelievable that we have been able to help so many children and young people. I was telling her how grateful I am for all the people who have come forward to help when suddenly she asked me one question that took me back a little. Lorna, if you could change one thing right now for children today what would it be?
When she said that so many things ran through my mind. How could I choose one?
I told her that it breaks my heart to see so many children that are suffering unnecessarily around the world, children are precious, and we need to change that. Children should only be children. It’s up to us today as adults to stand up for them and help them when we can.
There are so many areas we need to help to change. The leaders in every country need to stand up for the children of the world. All children should have a home, yet we have so many homeless and displaced children. Schools should be a happy place for children and yet so many children don’t even have a school. Lack of food is a huge issue for children, being hungry and thirsty, feeling abandoned and unloved as if no one cares. So many children are being abused so badly and neglected and if we helped communities and parents that are having problems maybe that would help break the cycle. This should not be happening anywhere in the world today.
If we can help children today and help to change all the situations affecting them, we wouldn’t have all the problems in the world we have today. There would be no need for drugs, no traumas, help would be there for mental issues, young people wouldn’t be turning to alcohol because they can’t cope with life. These things would be gone.
Imagine every child being happy and loved. If we can step in now and help children be happy, healthy and safe just imagine what the world would be like when they are adults. All that love back in the world and as they grow, what wonderful people they could be.
Please take a moment today to watch the short video I made for you. Thank you and I love you.
