July's Capricorn full Moon falls on July 3. These feel like momentous times; Venus has gone direct (moving forward) after 40 days (and 40 nights) of being retrograde, Mars has finally, after what seemed to be forever, left Virgo after a very long retrograde and sojourn in that sign, Saturn has also gone direct, and we've had the first of the Uranus/Pluto squares. So it feels momentous alright and there's a lot of energy flying around and many people are picking it up.

The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon is Capricorn 13: A Fire Worshipper Meditates On the Ultimate Realities Of Existence. From my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom -

‘A Fire Worshipper Meditates on the Ultimate Realities of Existence’ pictures someone who’s very focused on finding the core truths of ‘Reality’ and the depth and breadth of what it really means to ‘Exist’. ‘Fire Worshipping’ comes from the religion of Zoroastrianism, and is a branch of Vedism. The term Zoroastrianism comes from the Persian prophet Zoroaster or Zarathustra about 630-541 BC. Whilst a young man, he began having conversations with Ahura Mazda, the “Lord of Wisdom”. Fire was seen as the Creative God, as it was said to purify people, especially those that it consumed. 'Magian’ is another word for ‘Fire Worshipper’ and can be used to denote an astrologer. Many rituals were observed, amongst these the sacred ‘Fire’ needed to be kept glowing in the home and also in the heart and mind.

In your situation, you may find yourself very focused, with a great passion for getting to the core, or the truth, of the ‘Ultimate Realities of Existence’. You may need to shut out extraneous sights, sounds and outside influences that distract or worry. By turning inward, examining your situation and being on the alert for any messages that come your way, either from God or from your higher self, you will see in a way you’ve never done before. There can be a sense of danger, but also fascination as things are revealed to you. This can picture new beginnings. There may be a need to harness personal resources. This Symbol is often about creating magic. Look through appearances to get to the heart of things. Alternatively, it can picture someone who goes to fanatical lengths to understand or promote something. This Symbol often calls into question the true meaning of the material things of life; do they get too much or too little attention?

Keywords: Self-conquest. Kundalini energy. Playing with dangerous elements to reach a higher state of being. Philosophy. The stories of our lives. Examining life and its meaning. The buzz of being alive. Questions of our very existence. Finding the reasons behind everything. Contemplation and meditation. Incense. The hypnotic spell that fire can cast. Staring into the flames. Throwing oneself into the deep end. The search for core truths.

The Caution: Overestimation of personal power and abilities. Obsession to the point of self- obliteration. Being intense. Going too deeply. Exhausting oneself. Excluding family and friends because of philosophical or spiritual convictions. Not seeing the woods for the trees.

The Karmic Condition (the degree before) of the Moon is Capricorn 12: A Student Of nature Lecturing, Revealing Little-Known Aspects Of Life. This is a powerful degree and many of it's blessings will be obvious from the wording of the Symbol. Whether one is a 'student' or a 'teacher' is a subjective question, but for sure we are always both, especially when conditions feel supercharged as they do currently. The environment and issues to do with climate and wild weather and freak events are certainly all in the news and in our conversations.

Keywords: Observing and translating so others may learn. Green politics. Issues the conservatives don’t want revealed. Nature and natural remedies. Science and its rewards and drawbacks. Issues such as global warming. Whistle blowers. Natural healing methods. Documentaries. Conspiracy theories.

The Caution: Radical non-humanistic views. Intellectual smugness. ‘Lecturing’ and browbeating. Modern technological advances that stifle the environment. Lip service to conservation issues.

The Quest degree (the degree following) the full Moon is Capricorn 14: An Ancient Bas-Relief Carved In Granite Remains A Witness To A Long-Forgotten Culture. History and historical places and relics can provide some very interesting insights along with many questions. Issues to do with lost cities or civilizations may come up, with the fascinations they hold. On a more mundane level, we may ask what we are hanging onto from previous times that are "set in stone" that might be best released or let go of, and perhaps a new set of rules, limitations and structures can take the place of situations that are old or outworn or should perhaps just be forgotten.

Keywords: Anonymous immortality. Things written or carved in stone, or concrete. Permanent records. Clues from the past. Things that should be shaped and changed with the times. Pieces of art or sculpture. Things that belong in a museum. Inscriptions and carvings. Ancient civilizations and their relics. History.

The Caution: Limitations that don’t allow for changes. Old and outworn situations. Things that can not, or will not, ever change. Memories frozen in time. Feeling stuck, like no growth is possible. Frigidity of feelings.

The degree of the Sun at the full Moon is Cancer 13: A Hand, Which Is Held Out  Receptively, Is Remarkable For The Suggestion Of Character In It's Prominent Thumb. This is a wonderful Symbol that shows being receptive, outreaching and responsive to others while maintaining and sense of power and integrity (the 'Prominent Thumb').

Keywords: Openness and willingness to extend oneself to others. The handshake and the need for it. Being approachable and friendly. Palmistry and palm reading. Having a firm will. Introductions. Strong character. Flexible behavior. Hitchhiking.

The Caution: An aggressiveness and overbearing nature. Feeling that one is better, or stronger, than others. The smooth handshake that manipulates to impress one’s personality. Unbending and dominant behavior. Taking over situations regardless of what others want. Defensive, insecure, unsure, introverted.

It's worth mentioning the Karmic Condition of the Sun. It's Cancer 12: A Chinese Woman Nursing A Baby Whose Aura Reveals Him To Be The Reincarnation Of A Great Teacher. This is a very powerful degree and it sits exactly opposite the 'Student Of Nature Lecturing' of Capricorn 12. This Symbol shows the genius that we can see in others, in youngsters and within ourselves. Sometimes with this degree, we see greatness in very young people. They can feel like 'old souls'. Perhaps they are enormously talented or have an incredible knowing about them.

The Quest degree of the Sun is Cancer 14: A Very Old Man Facing A Vast Dark Space To The Northeast. As with all the Symbols, this degree speaks of many things, but one aspect of it is that it's the Dalai Lama's Sun degree and he has China to the 'Vast Dark Space To The Northeast' - he is also the 'Reincarnation Of A Great Teacher'. I often see the Dalai Lama or news about Tibet when this degree is around. It's also the Sun degree of the U.S. and many people are looking to Washington DC (which is quite to the 'north east' of the rest of the country) for political and social developments and the election coming up in November. There can be a sense of abandonment with this degree around, like the government or big business is not taking any notice of us (or taking care of us in a way we might expect or want).

'The ruler of the Capricorn full Moon is Saturn. It has gone direct and we're going to be feeling that we're gathering forward momentum again and can make some concrete decisions and progress in our lives. The Symbol is Libra 23: Chanticleer's Voice Heralds The Rising Sun With Enthusiastic Tones. Saturn is just gathering pace and with it on this 'crowing' degree, it can imply a reluctance to speak up, to speak out, to make a noise about something, however, it feels like that's just what is needed most. Some may feel that even though they have 'crowed the dawn' before, they have to do it again. Others may feel the urge to get their voice heard, to announce the dawn and to rally others (and themselves) to action. The issue of having a voice is particularly strong at the moment with the last new Moon on Gemini 29: The First Mockingbird Of Spring Sings From The Tree Top.

The issue of whether to speak up and get one's voice heard, along with what to say, can be quite something with the Moon's north node on Sagittarius 5: An Old Owl Perched High Up In A Tree. I feel this degree is saying to be watchful and listen and assimilate before speaking. The wise old owl sees everything, hears everything and moves very quietly and effectively when he does make a move.

Keywords: Wisdom and strength. Evening contemplation. Keeping thoughts to oneself. A wise “sage” type of person. Nocturnal vision. Exalted wisdom. “Night owls”. Heightened sight and seeing. Being silent and alert for the slightest movement. The ability to see all around. The spirit of birds. Silent flight. Having acute hearing. Lofty ideals.

The Caution: Smug denial of available wisdom. Someone thinking they know it all. Not wanting to join in with others in fun activities. Acting old before their time. Excluding others as being frivolous and unknowing. Waiting for one’s prey. Black magic. Being old before one's time. Always being alone. Remote and cut off. Sitting isolated. Saying nothing when one should be saying something. Inability to sleep soundly.

Alone and warming his five wits, The white owl in the belfry sits. Lord Alfred Tennyson

Throwing a spanner in the works is Jupiter and the karmic Moon's south node on Gemini 5: A Radical Magazine, Asking For Action Displays A Sensational Front Page. Again, talk of making announcements, make a noise, being 'radical', speaking up. But perhaps, and depending on what's going on for you, it's time to let others make the big noises, to salute those that are 'fighting the good fight', or getting their views out there for all to see. Perhaps it's time for us to re frame what and where we share our ideas and with whom. For some, though, they will have an increased desire to put up their 'front-page news' - that depends on your situation and what you're trying to accomplish.

Keywords: Speaking one’s mind. Messages and news that awakes or shocks. The need for reform. Challenging outlooks. Breaking out of constraints. The media. Issues of propaganda. Headlines that promise more than they deliver. Revolutions. Social or emotional causes.
Conspiracy theories. Printing presses. Publishing. Publicity. Gaining attention. Speaking one’s truth without fear of consequences.

The Caution: Being argumentative. Arousing others for selfish reasons. Distortions of the truth. Misinformation and disinformation. Getting the whole picture wrong. Exploitation of situations. Overstating messages. Biased information. Old and outworn news or views.

Certainly, in the media, there will be cause for quite a few big and sometimes radical 'front- page news'.

Venus is on a radical degree as well. Venus is on Gemini 8: Aroused Strikers Surround A  Factory. Being the degree that Venus goes direct and having Venus on it for several days, this is a powerful time for the feeling of 'going on strike'. If you're not particularly feeling it in your personal life, it's not hard to see it happening out in the world around us - this Symbol is everywhere it seems.

Keywords: Bargaining to find more equitable solutions. Demanding better rights and conditions. Comradeship. Disruption of the normal flow. Not wanting to contribute or work. Taking time out to consider one’s position. Taking action or refusing to act. Labor strikes and strikers. Demonstrations. Peace rallies. Standing up for others. Scab labor. Sweat shops. Slave labor. Strikes. Bosses. Workers. Placard waving.

The Caution: Being obsessed with what is desired. Refusing any compromises. Going without one’s due in order to protest. Being locked out because of one’s actions or attitude. Being left out in the street. Greedy behavior. Asking for more than one’s share. Overworked and underpaid. Shutting down.

If you don't recognize the pic at the right here, it's from the movie Network and in it the character Howard Beale (Peter Finch) implores people to lean out the window and shout "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore."

This 'not wanting to take this any more' is further shown by the placement of Mercury. It's on Leo 8: An Activist Is Stirring Up Discontent By Spreading His Revolutionary Ideas. The recent decision around affordable health care for people in the US is an example of this degree working. Some, particularly on the right, are accusing this of a further move towards 'socialism' or even 'communism', and this Symbol has been written as A Communist Activist. I don't think the entire degree of Leo 8 needs to be assigned to 'communism', but, rather, it's about being an activist (and whatever that means to the individual).

Mars has *finally* left Virgo and is now entering Libra and a big shift of energies is going to be felt. The Symbol is Libra 1: A Butterfly Preserved And Made Perfect With A Dart Through It. This degree, particularly with Mars on it, can show impatience with things not changing, there can be a sense of self sacrifice, being stuck to the spot, not being able to move (or not wanting to, but needing to), or that one is appreciated for the 'wrong things'. The 'Butterfly' is impaled to the spot because of it's beauty, not particularly because of it's intrinsic value as an individual. Mars here, especially after the retrogrades of Mars, Venus and Saturn, etc, can have us feeling rather held back, but determined to move forward - perhaps more than ever. The following degrees of Libra ensure forward movement, but first, there's the removal of 'the dart - the pin'.

Keywords: Perfection and beauty made immortal. Holding onto things or events from the past. Unchanging realities. Moments frozen in time. Superficiality. External beauty that’s lacking animation. Pinning things up so they can be admired. The “handiwork” of creation on display. Transfiguration. Suspension in time. Posters.

The Caution: Impinging others’ growth for selfish needs. Surrender and immobilization. Pinned down and unable to move. The attempt to freeze things from growing naturally. Placing importance on preserving appearances at the expense of all else. Staying far too long. Seeing no future. Having no past. Not letting go.

Complimenting the 'Owl' degree, Uranus is asking us to take a deeper, perhaps quieter, look at what's going on. It's on Aries 9: A Seer Gazes Intently Into A Crystal Ball Before Him. This speaks of looking intently, seeing the signs, taking things in. Being a 'seer'. [This degree is my IC degree (excuse the pun!) and I've just had laser surgery to one eye to enable me to read things close up. I now have long range vision in my right eye and short range in my left. Uranus on my IC has certainly stirred things up for me. My brain is just now getting used to the different focuses.]

Neptune is on Pisces 4: Heavy Traffic On A Narrow Isthmus Linking Two Seaside Resorts. This Symbol speaks of running to and fro, lots of traffic, congestion, trying to find a car space or being stuck in a traffic jam or wanting to take time out from the running around. This Symbol has certainly been evident in my life with me going between Encinitas and San Diego in southern California - 6 lane freeways and sometimes it's more like a car park than a freeway! Where is your life needing a free flow? Where are you stuck and not moving?

Uranus and Pluto are squaring each other, which is one of the more noteworthy aspects going on at the moment. This can bring up all kinds of tensions (along with releases) and the desire to make a change - sometimes big changes - and there can be a longing to keep things the way they've been - perhaps it's about the changes that are coming whether one likes it or not. Whatever your perspective, changes are afoot and it's how we deal with the stresses and the 'push me pull you' feeling that this aspect can have. This shows major revolutions going on both in the world at large and within ourselves.

Pluto is on Capricorn 9: An Angel Comes Carrying A Harp. Perhaps our best bet in amongst all that's going on is to radiate harmony within and outside of ourselves. That could also be our biggest challenge in this very interesting time of movement and change.
