January's Capricorn New Moon

Tuning In And Turning On To The Invisible

What’s invisible sings, and we bear witness. Rita Dove

Let us be silent that we may hear the whispers of the gods. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. Victor Hugo

The hidden harmony is better than the obvious. Heraclitus

Of course the music is a great difficulty. You see, if one plays good music, people don’t listen, and if one plays bad music people don’t talk. Oscar Wilde

I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Religion’s in the heart, not in the knees. Douglas William Jerrold

It is difficult to produce a television documentary that is both incisive and probing when every twelve minutes one is interrupted by twelve dancing rabbits singing about toilet paper. Rod Serling

Let us go singing as far as we go: the road will be less tedious. Virgil

January's Capricorn new Moon occurs on the evening of the 9th in the United States and on the 10th in Australia. This is a very powerful new Moon and one that will have many ramifications - some great, some not-so-great (as always).

For a start, we have Venus and Saturn conjunct (together) on some very interesting degrees. Saturn is on Sagittarius 13: A WIDOW'S PAST IS BROUGHT TO LIGHT. This Symbol, especially with Saturn (the Lord of Karma, among other things) on this degree. It speaks about secrets coming out, the revelations of things that have previously been kept under wraps. It can also be about our fears that such things might be brought to the surface, rather than the reality of it actually happening. Saturn here could show us where we keep parts of our lives suppressed, quiet, out-of-bounds. It may show were we have some regret or shame attached to incidents, especially from the past. Add to this the fact that the day before the new Moon, Venus is also on this 'Widow's Secrets' degree.

Venus, by the time of the new Moon, will have moved onto Sagittarius 14: THE PYRAMIDS AND THE SPHINX. This degree is also very much about the past, sometimes it speaks about the glorifying of it, sometimes it speaks about exploitation, greed and graft. It can also point to an enormous amount of time, energy and resources being poured into creating a business, an empire, a large project, or whatever. It can speak of big business holding down 'the light guy', all the while taking advantage of their hard-earned labour.

Of course, Venus and Saturn conjunct in Sagittarius can mean more than the above. It can also show where we decide to cut off a relationship, stop a course of action, decide not to associate with particular people any more, start a new diet, a new daily regime, etc. etc. We may find ourselves, or others, a little cold and distant as we sort out what's going on, or, what we want from situations or people. Naturally, others might cut off from us and we may have to wave them goodbye (and, in some cases, good riddance as this might have been coming for some time).

We have Mercury retrograde in Capricorn during this new Moon period. The degrees of Capricorn 30 and Capricorn 29 are very telling, and, it seems, there's a bit more of the 'secrets' theme going on here. Mercury, at the time of the new Moon, is on Capricorn 30: A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD AFFAIRS, and, soon after the new Moon, it moves back onto Capricorn 29: A WOMEN READING TEA LEAVES. Both of these degrees can have us realising things about our lives, finding insights into our lives and removing some of the 'veils' that previously prevented us from seeing what is really going on. A word or two with a confidante can shed light on all kinds of situations.

We have a bit of a last gasp of the Uranus/Pluto square that we've been experiencing for the last few years. As the new Moon is very closely aspecting both Uranus and Pluto, we may find issues of freedom vs power coming up - particularly where we give away our freedoms through being overpowered by others. The Sabian Symbols for these planets (see below), also highlight issues of sexuality and being grounded in one's physical body.

Another, very big, aspect of this new Moon is Jupiter and the Moon's north node conjunct (together on the same degree) on Virgo 24: MARY AND HER WHITE LAMB. This is a very interesting conjunction on a degree that can talk about purity of thought and action, issues to do with race, co-dependence, feelings of belonging, relationships and their boundaries, etc. Religion can come into this too, especially as this is Jupiter in Virgo, expanding the 'I'm right and you are wrong if you think, prey, believe, worship, etc, differently than me'. Mary And Her White Lamb can speak of the Jesus and Mary story for rather obvious reasons. Jupiter and the Moon's node can bring about all kinds of good things - travel, expansion, abundance, new relationships, new possibilities, new horizons, BUT, there can also be arguments and explosions when differing perspectives collide.

In the days leading up to the new Moon, we have Mercury and Mars squaring off from early Aquarius and early Scorpio. A lot of hectic energy is flying around and we have to remember to stay even during this time. At the time of the new Moon, Mercury and Mars are still squaring each other, but they are separating and the energy will wane somewhat. I was in my local wine shop yesterday, talking to the proprietor. He said he's looking forward to the end of the holidays as so many people land in Avalon Beach (Sydney, Australia) and they are rude, pushy, demanding, etc. He was quite upset as there'd just been a few incidents in the shop involving tourists. I refrained from explaining to him that Mars was just going into Scorpio AND onto Scorpio 1: TOURISTS ON A SIGHT SEEING BUS... life is something of an amazing hologram... extraordinary.

Here's to more of the good things regarding Jupiter and the node! If you'd like to read up a bit more about Jupiter and the North Node and what's been going on with them recently, you can do so here: 2016: Leaving The Unwanted Behind And Forging New Pathways - Jupiter And The Nodes.

6a00d83462eb8d69e201bb08a63528970d-100wiThe new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It's like a birth after a time of gestation or being 'in the womb'. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together - bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life.

symbols_moon.jpg The New Moon is on Capricorn 20: A HIDDEN CHOIR SINGING DURING A RELIGIOUS SERVICE

This Symbol shows singing, playing or enjoying music, and, also, to be able to pick up on things that others don’t see or hear. The “Hidden Choir” brings songs, or sounds, with messages of salvation and faith. The fact that they are hidden shows something coming out of the background, something subtle, something others may miss. It can be important to be receptive to your feminine, intuitive side, as there are messages to be heard. Realize that you are not alone; there are other people who feel the same things. Watch out for mental noise. The voices of the women heard more through orthodox halls. Do you want to contribute?

Keywords: Background messages. Voices not heard or noticed before. Men, women and the church. Sensitivity to spirituality. Speaking behind closed doors. Voices from "nowhere". Melodies from the past. Choirs, organs and organ music. Channeled voices. Songs, sheet music. Hidden speakers. Clairvoyance.

The Caution: Taking undue credit for group qualities. Keeping the feminine out of the picture. Discriminating against people as not being "spiritual" or finding that some just plain aren't. Background voices telling people how they should live. Using hidden messages to manipulate people, sometimes through guilt. Gossip. Messages that don't make sense. Being afraid to sing.

The Karmic Degree (the degree before) for the new Moon is Capricorn 19: A CHILD OF ABOUT FIVE CARRYING A HUGE SHOPPING BAG FILLED WITH GROCERIES

Click here to learn more about the Karmic and Quest degrees.

This Symbol shows having to “Carry” heavy loads, to shoulder responsibilities, do chores and jobs and help others, sometimes because there’s no one else who can or will do it. Often, the “Child” gets these responsibilities because they are the one who others know is going to take it seriously, completing the task, taking care of details. You may feel that you have been burdened with responsibilities beyond normal expectations and possibly beyond your capability. Despite being keen and enthusiastic, you must be careful not to try to take on too much, or do too much, or too quickly. Like a child, you need to play, be creative and rest.

Keywords: Being the one everyone counts on to do the job. Feeling weighed down. Having to carry the "bag". Lifting heavy weights and bearing the consequences. Taking on things above and beyond what one should. Acting the grownup. Maturing quickly. Looking after paperwork. Running errands. Providing food and sustenance for everyone.

The Caution: Overloading the innocent and the inexperienced without thought of the consequences. Taking on too much. Not allowing for fun and carefree activities. Never being "off-duty". The Quest Degree for the new Moon is Capricorn 21: A RELAY RACE

This Symbol shows working together in a cooperative venture, to know when to go and when to
stop, when to take the baton and when to pass it on, and how to pace yourself so you can stay in the “Relay Race”. Each person has to contribute as best they can; some run fast, some have their own talents, some trip you up and cause you to falter. Working together, you can figure out who will help win the race and who wont. Sometimes, victory seems achievable, but you are likely to be a member of a team, with your own special task to perform. You may not be the one who crosses the finish line, but you may, eventually, share in the group effort. Just watch for when it’s your turn and when it isn’t.

Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? One has to put aside skepticism and embrace trust and intuitive knowing in order to be able to listen to the messages that are around. Sometimes we assume our beliefs are right and that others need to be shown the truth. Efforts should be turned to creating infrastructures to pursue these beliefs. There is often a healing as things that have been kept ‘closeted’ lose some of their charge when they come into the light of day. By looking at past experience, you may find the signs, however, there’s a need to look closely at what’s happening as you could find yourself on a kind of merry-go-round; waking up each day to the same dilemma, question or problem. Don't try to read too much into situations, but do take a good look at how you come across in relation to other people. Do you keep repeating the same mistakes? Perhaps you help others get over their past, freeing them up for having a better, brighter future.

symbols_uranus.jpg Uranus is on Aries 17: TWO PRIM SPINSTERS SITTING TOGETHER IN SILENCE

This Symbol shows that quiet withdrawal might be just what you need. However, it is easy to become isolated in conservative, albeit moral, ideas. You may find that there is only a select, restricted group with whom you wish to associate. There can be a quiet knowing that does not need a lot of words or emotional displays. When situations get bogged down in emotional or rational complexity and everyone just needs to be rallying and going for the objective, you may be the one to let everyone know. If you've been neglecting your physical well-being, it is good to re-establish that affinity with your vitality. Seeing through false intentions or messages could be one of your objectives now. You may need to organize and stage a display to promote, teach or disseminate, bringing a feeling of community in a common goal. With the power to influence or sway groups of people, there needs to be a feeling of moderation and the ability to listen as well as speak. This can, however, picture situations of hysteria or overstating one's case. Is the audience listening? Is the cause just?

This Symbol can show purity of motive and pure and wonderful relationships and friendships. However, it can also point to dependence or codependence where people can't stand to be separate. Hence, relationships may need to be assessed to see how healthy they actually are. The need for constant reassurance that everything is OK can be wearing and put a strain on those involved. symbols_south_node.jpg The Moon's South Node is on Pisces 24: THE TINY ISLAND SEEMS LOST IN THE BROAD OCEAN, BUT ITS HAPPY INHABITANTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT WORLD ALL THEIR OWN

This shows living with others, sharing the same space or efforts to create a happy life. The people pictured all live together and have “Created a Great World All Their Own”. No matter how well people get along, people still have to compromise and give and take in order to sustain good community relations. Drawn together by similar hopes and ambitions it is ironic that sometimes compromise is the only way to successful coexistence. Making the most of what is available, even though it is restrictive, will help dispel any feelings of being cut off and isolated. Who are you comfortable sharing your space with? Who would you have sharing your desert island?

Keywords: Adaptability and cohabitation. People jammed in. Seeking others of like mind. Knowing a lot of people. Always considering others. Noise and light pollution. Feeling like new blood is needed in order to grow and flourish. Coexistence. Apartments. Living together. People moving in.

The Caution: Cutting off from those around. Not having enough privacy—or space. Things being kept too "all in the family". No chance to be alone. Pollution and garbage. Crowding out people. Loneliness even amongst many. Being deserted and lost.

The Moon's South Node symbolizes: Past karmic patterns to be overcome, can be habits that are good, but can describe things, relationships, issues that you need to let go of, or, hold you back from manifesting your true destiny. Relationships that feel karmic and difficult, memories from the past.
