Standing Strong And Keeping Your Hat On: November's Full Moon In Taurus

November's Taurus full Moon occurs on November 7 in Australia and November 6 in the United States. With all the worry and fear that's been perpetrated world-wide with threats of epidemic and contagion and terrorism, it's been a very full-on time for many. We have been hearing of people afraid, with little of what's being worried about based on reality, and it has been concerning and largely propaganda induced, and I'm hoping that most people are seeing through the fear that's being spread. This full Moon shows the need to keep our heads above water and keeping an eye on what is really going on (whatever that might be!).

I apologise for the lateness of this newsletter. I spend a lot of time writing them and I've had my own difficulties, not the least of which has been constant computer crashes - life has been incredibly challenging. Still, one soldiers on. I know many are feeling the strain.  Speak of the strain, this full Moon speaks about holding up in amongst it all.

The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon is Taurus 15: A Man With A Silk Hat, Muffled Against The Cold, Braves A Storm. The following interpretations are from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

‘A Man’ in this Symbol is shown ‘Muffled Against the Storm’. He is experiencing a time of hardship and discomfort, and is unable to avoid the difficulties that have arisen. He ‘Braves a Storm’, yet he is wearing his ‘Silk Hat’. The ‘Silk Hat’ indicates that he may be somewhat of an expensive and stylish dresser. The fact that he’s wearing it shows a somewhat ‘Brave’, dignified and optimistic attitude of confidence and hope for the future. However, people often don’t take other's difficulties seriously if they put on a brave and dignified attitude, dressing properly and presenting things as if they were really okay.

There is a need to show determination, confidence and hope for the future, as this will encourage you and those around you. There may not be much that can really be done; it’s just a difficult, ‘Stormy’ time. It’s the nature of life for things to turn around and improve. Forge ahead knowing that life will calm down and get easier. It is important to know whether the ‘Storm’ is visible to everyone and not merely in someone’s mind. The bad weather you perceive could be hidden from others. Presenting a brave face to all you meet and hoping for a better future often helps. However, it could lead to you not being taken seriously by others. ‘Brave the Storm’ and eventually you will you be able to relax both your mind and body. Then you will be able to, once again, show your individual style and be appreciated.

Keywords: Inner poise being more important than outer appearances. Braving stormy weather. Ploughing on through difficulties. Being willing to weather storms and take on the hard times. Having tasks or errands to perform when one would rather not. Hats, scarves and muffles. Sudden change of circumstances.

The Caution: Not showing one's true feelings. Superficial shows of strength. Not noticing things improving. Always battling the “elements”. Complaining and whining instead of getting on with the task at hand. Wanting to be pampered and not face up to life’s storms. Considering appearance before all else. Superficiality. Insufficient or inappropriate clothing or apparel. Refusing to protect one's self from cold or harm.

The degree of the Sun at this full Moon is Scorpio 15: Children Playing Around Five Mounds of Sand - this degree can speak of people playing together, having fun, or, playing hide-and-go-seek and not wanting to come out of the shadows. This Symbol can show either side - participating in or hiding from life.

‘Children Playing Around Five Mounds of Sand’ shows ‘Children’ playing, enjoying themselves and each other in a safe, natural setting. The ‘Five Mounds’ often represents the pentacle, or pentagram. A pentacle is a five-pointed star, often held to have magical or mystical significance. It is a symbol often associated with and used in Wicca and pagan rites. The ‘Sand’ is symbolic of impermanence; it can disperse over time, leaving only a passing impression. The ‘Children’ symbolize innocence and, in this case, almost a lack of awareness of the more serious or crucial factors in their lives. Here the ‘Children Play’ in and around the pentacle with little consideration of whether there may be some other deeper or ritualistic purpose.

You may feel that you have the potential for greater things, but perhaps sometimes don’t fully understand what they are. Development takes time and it is the first experience of ‘Playing’ with latent talent that leads to greater knowledge. You will be able to fulfill your potential, but maybe you need to start at the beginning. Nowadays, the true art of ‘Play’ has largely been lost. We have the apparent need for more and more complicated machinery and gadgets in order to bring joy. Much can be learnt from letting go and allowing yourself to experience joy naturally found in the company of others. Indeed, if ‘Playing’ is seen as sacred and special, it can be particularly healing, whether it's things such as walking in the desert, doing sweat lodges, or enjoying spiritual gatherings with others. Interacting with others brings out our “humanness”. It will be necessary to be conscious of their needs, as some may get ‘lost’ in this situation, losing sight of the others as they disappear behind the ‘Mounds of Sand’. Taking things lightheartedly and enjoying the company of other people, particularly those that are creative and intelligent, can move situations forward.

Keywords: Creative integration of new ideals. Five being the number of mankind. The value of play in getting to know one another. Playgrounds. Crop circles. The desert. Throwing caution to the wind. Playing ‘hide and go seek’. Shifting sands. Rituals. American Indian rites. The love of the physical world. The five senses. Carefree and happy playgrounds and laughter. Pentacles. Witchcraft. Solomon's Seal.

The Caution: Being too serious to see life’s lighthearted side. Mourning or regretting over childhood lost. The inability to take life seriously. Brooding and hiding.

It seems fitting to mention the Quest Degree (the degree following) the Sun on this full Moon as it seems to be emphasising
the need to keep a brave face. Indeed here, we are asked to smile as this invites others closer to us, which can, of course, bring about all kinds of good things. The Quest Degree is Scorpio 16: A Girl's Face Breaking Into A Smile.

Keywords: Breaking the ice. Drawing others. Radiating happiness. Facial expressions. Changing one’s expression or demeanor. Facial feedback. Making positive eye contact. Transferring feelings that lift others. Releasing stress, worry and anger. Distances bridged between people. Being face-to-face. Teeth, lips, gums, dimples, eyes. Facial lines. Dental work. Beauty that radiates.

The Caution: False happiness to satisfy others’ needs. Covering up how one’s really feeling through putting on a show of happiness. Lack of sincerity. Rigidity of responses. Sour faces. Feeling sad and lonely. Keeping people on the sidelines and the periphery of one’s life. Grumpy attitudes. Refusal to communicate.

Venus, the ruler of this Taurean full Moon, is on Scorpio 18: A Path Through Woods Rich With Autumn Coloring. Venus here can have many feeling as though a certain time, or period or phase, of their lives is either over or finishing. We can be reminded that many things are behind us. Taking a walk in the woods, or in nature, can revitalise us and bring a spring back into our steps.

Keywords: Rewards of plenty. Transformations through the different seasons of one’s life. Overcoming battles and disappointments. Finding peace. Layers of personality issues flaking off with maturity. Gardens, sometimes off the beaten track. Taking time out to reflect on nature. The feeling of change in the air. Mature and elegant responses. Rich colors. Memories and memoirs. Taking life one day at a time. Overcoming loss through positive attitudes. Warm responses. A calm knowingness. Reverence and respect. Having a "been there, done that" attitude.

The Caution: Being too late for the harvest. Concentrating on the past. Being oblivious to nature’s beauty. Resisting the flow of the seasons. Feeling that winter is upon you with no way out. Issues of growing old. Being alone in one's "autumn years".

Mercury is on Libra 28: A Man Alone In Deep Gloom, Unnoticed, Angels Are Coming To His Aid. As mentioned, so many are feeling the difficulties that are hanging in the air. Of course, not all are feeling this way - some are like 'angels' for others; turning up when others need them, spreading cheer and good deeds, helping out where needed. If you are feeling rather 'Gloomy', sending out a signal for help to arrive can see it happening right before your eyes. Being willing to admit that you need help may be part of the dynamic. This is a lovely Symbol and it often portends good things breaking through the darkness.

Keywords: Feelings of not being alone. Awareness of spiritual help in times of need. Salvation versus depression. Feeling like one’s luck is about to change. Improvements in the pipeline. Changes in the “weather”. Helpers arriving just when they’re needed. Brightening influences. Angels and spiritual forces for good. Guardian angels.

The Caution: Unrealistic reliance on spiritual agencies or help from others. Feeling like no one cares or that no one is listening. Being alone and forgotten. Losing faith in things getting better. Refusing help. Misery and gloom and doom.

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Alexander Pope

Angels rush in when fools are almost dead. Rudolph Fisher

Mars is on Capricorn 8: An Angel Comes Carrying A Harp - here, as with Mercury, we have 'angels' mentioned. It can be that messages of solace and relief may not be believed, make us angry, or having us up in arms about something that perhaps we should not be reacting to. This is Mars, after all, and Mars can have us reacting to things in a type of knee-jerk fashion, when really, the situation does not call for that reaction (or, perhaps not helped by that type of reaction). A lot of people are on hair-trigger alert. Perhaps some soothing music would help to dispel some of the more jagged feelings that are hanging in the air.

Keywords: Demons driven away by music. Lifting faith and hope. Messages of peace from the other side. Having a message to spin. Being in tune, spiritually. Having an elevated view of humanity. Creating harmony. Blowing the whistle. Advertising. Salvation that arrives when most needed. Harmonics. Music and musical instruments. Visitations of spirit. Messages of love and hope arriving. Pulling on the heartstrings. Heavenly attunement. Beautiful tunes. Promises of redemption. Revelations. Plucking strings.

The Caution: Having a holier-than-thou attitude. Losing oneself in fantasy. Promising more than can be delivered. “Melodies” that deceive or lead astray. ‘Harping’ on things (dwelling on issues). Messages that deceive or lead astray. Playing a tune and expecting all to follow.

Jupiter is on Leo 22: A Carrier Pigeon Fulfilling It's Mission. This is a lovely degree for Jupiter to be on - it brings a sense of hope, deliverance, messages delivered, a feeling of having a mission. What is your mission? Are you living up to it? A tricky side to it can be gossip and with Jupiter here, it could be a good thing to check once, twice, three times perhaps before speaking about something that may set off a chain reaction. The 'Carrier Pigeon' works well when the mission is a worthwhile and life-enhancing one.

Keywords: Bringer of good tidings and news. Creating lines of communication. Completing tasks. Feeling like one is on a mission. Finding out what’s truly going on. Having a sense of destiny. Receiving orders from a higher authority. Being magnetically aligned. Pigeons, doves. Not being put off the track no matter what. Mail. Flying home.

The Caution: Gossip. Messages that are not useful to anyone or are outworn and old. Needing recognition and applause for doing simple things. Useless information. Putting a lot of effort into something that is not worth it. “Stool pigeons”. Working until one drops from exhaustion. Being so one-pointed that you forget other parts of your life.

Saturn is on Scorpio 25: An X-Ray Photograph Helps With The Diagnosis. Jupiter and Saturn are in a square aspect to each other. This can be a push-pull-push thing. Expansion and contraction - contraction and expansion - which way to go? Saturn on this degree suggests that we need to look deeply past surface appearances to get an understanding of what's going on.

Keywords: Penetrating insight. Piercing through external appearances. Pure understanding. Incredible insight and revelations. Having the eyes to see. X-ray machines, spying, detective work. Reaching conclusions. Evaluations. Photographs. Negatives. Radiation. X-ray vision. Expensive and up-to-date equipment. Chemotherapy. Mammograms. Scanning equipment. Finding causes. Paparazzi.

The Caution: Disregarding the flesh on the outside-the humanity of people. Invading other people’s psychic or intellectual space. Undressing or revealing people through subtle manipulation. Always being intense and dissatisfied with the easy, or obvious, answers.

The Karmic Condition (the degree before) of Saturn is Scorpio 24: Crowds Coming Down The Mountain To Listen To One Inspired Man. I often see this degree around issues to do with leaders of countries. It's interesting to see what's going on politically in the United States, Great Britain and Australia. Saturn seems to be saying that we're tired of the same old same old and that we're seeing through the pretence and the political spin. Perhaps we need to listen more to our own sense of inner authority than to those who have an agenda to push.

Uranus is on Aries 14: A Serpent Coiling Near A Man And A Woman. This is a fascinating Symbol. I have heard more mention of snakes since Uranus has been on this degree the last few months than I have in years. Snakes, of course, talk about transformation, although in this Symbol the message can be more one of being able to accept knowledge or insights into things that may have been forbidden or hidden from view. It certainly seems to paint a picture of taking on our demons in ways that enhance, rather than diminish, our lives. Issues to do with men and women and equality have arisen. Recently, there's been a strong on-line push to stop a certain guy who is currently touring Australia touting his 'scoring techniques' which include getting a stranglehold on women's throats and subjugating and humiliating them. He has been getting strong bookings for his workshops which are quite expensive to attend. Thankfully, social media has been registering our disgust and some of his workshops have been cancelled. It is astounding that he gets so much oxygen.

This Symbol, particularly with Uranus here, is asking that we break through the beliefs and superstitions that hold us back from being all we want to be, especially those that are culturally ingrained from the 'patriarchy'.

Keywords: Enticement. Allurement. Revealing archetypal knowledge that may not be “socially acceptable”. Temptations. The Adam and Eve story. Jealousy. Sexual instincts. Life and death issues. Relating based on control. Kundalini energy. Realizing polarity. Individuation. Eating the Apple. The “knowledge of good and evil”. Having one’s eyes opened. Marking one’s territory.

The Caution: Feeling guilty. Being afraid to express one’s feelings. Basic instincts and sexual energy. The fear of knowledge, secret or otherwise. Using sexuality as a control device. Disgust or distrust of the body. Sexually transmitted diseases. Hiding nudity or sexuality. Being thrown out of paradise.

Neptune is on Pisces 5: A Church Bazaar. What a juxtaposition to Uranus' Symbol on the Garden of Eden and the Temptations... here, we see Neptune on a rather Piscean image, one of the Church Bazaar. Church bazaars, or fetes, or places where people bring their offerings, time, energy, enthusiasm, etc, to share with the community. It can be about giving without thought of reward, or, it can show turning up to help others that may need help. Charitable acts, helping out, being a good citizen, etc. It can also show where The Church takes advantage of those that it should be protecting. Neptune here can help us to see through the fog, or, it can ensure that the blinkers are firmly in place so abuses continue where faith and belief should prevail. It's Neptune - it's an interesting veil to endeavour to pierce through.

Keywords: Overcoming loneliness and alienation (or the need to). Selling things. The issue of real worth. A lot of effort for small rewards. Small scale commercial bartering and interchange. The collection plate. Generosity and charitable community attitudes. Jars of jam and things handmade. Bric-a-brac. Bargains. Practical spirituality. Volunteers. People sharing the load. Charity work. Money raising. Garage or yard sales. Second hand clothes.

The Caution: Spiritual or social exclusivity. Giving things smaller worth than they deserve. Using people. Deception on the grounds of faith. Fussing about small details. Fighting over “position”. Issues of territory. Pushy people. Social boundaries that exclude some.

Pluto is on Capricorn 12: A Student Of Nature Lecturing On Little Known Aspects Of Nature. Once again, and still, the issues of climate change continue to crop up (excuse the pun). There can be a lot to learn with Pluto on this degree - what is really going on in life? What is life really about? What are we chasing? What is it that we are pursuing? What should we be noticing and perhaps moving towards? Or away from?

Keywords: Observing and translating so others may learn. Green politics. Issues the conservatives don’t want revealed. Nature and natural remedies. Science and its rewards and drawbacks. Issues such as global warming. Whistle blowers. Natural healing methods. Documentaries. Conspiracy theories.

The Caution: Radical non-humanistic views. Intellectual smugness. ‘Lecturing’ and browbeating. Modern technological advances that stifle the environment. Lip service to conservation issues.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer (and The Stories We Tell Ourselves) is on Pisces 14: A Woman Wrapped In Fox Fur. This seems to be talking about connecting with our instinctual selves - it can show the desire, or the need, for taking a look at how you show yourself to the world in terms of how you dress, show your intelligence, etc.

Keywords: Outer expressions of real inner worth. Animal magnetism and attraction. Intelligence and its display. Cloaks of feminine wit and sexuality. Beguiling minds. Animal totems and furs. Perceived beauty. The sense of having class and money. Beauty, fashion and talent. Being forward and upfront. Sense of personal style. Grace and composure. Elegance. Knowing what to say and when. Dressing up. Money spent on beauty. Tempting others with sexual signals. Perfumes. Pheromones. Taxidermy.

The Caution: False fronts and expressions of wealth. Selling out for momentary, or monetary, gain. Wrapped in intellectual superficiality. The fatal allure of beauty. Scoring points solely through charisma. Being so caught up in fashion and glamor that one loses a true sense of self. Being overdressed.

Chiron has, since April this year, spent quite a few weeks on Pisces 15: An Officer Drilling His Men In A Simulated Attack. Chiron will be back on that degree in January. Two of the stories that we have been told that we are either going to get Ebola and die a horrible death, or, we are going to be beheaded by ISIS and have a horrible death. These stories have had many people in a state of fear. Meanwhile, there are other, more likely, terrible things going on right under our noses - it's a matter of "quick, look over there, a squirrel"...

The Moon's north node is on Libra 20: A Jewish Rabbi In A Room Filled With Books And Manuscripts, Performing His Duty. The north node here seems to be telling us to follow the dictates of our spiritual lives, to follow our rituals, to feel a sense of meaning, to continue to learn and to work at helping the spiritual life expand around us. Regardless of what religion we may follow or whether we have religion or not, there is the opportunity of going deeper into our spiritual dimensions and expanding our sense of self in the world.

Keywords: Connection with ancient sources of truth and understanding. Faith in abiding laws. Inherited wisdom. Ancient books. Fundamentalism. Rituals, social and otherwise. Initiation ceremonies. Book work. Studying and worshipping. Doing deeds on behalf of the community. Religious services. Writings that reveal rules for living. Lawyers. Advocates. Hidden knowledge.

The Caution: Religious dogmatism. Following the rules of “the book”. Sticking to what convention says. Losing one’s sense of individuality. Over-inflated sense of self. Distrust or hate of different religions, backgrounds or ethnic origins. Restrictive rules.

My take on this full Moon is that we have to hold our heads up high, wear our 'silk hats' and our 'fox furs', be true to ourselves and others and have faith and hope in the future. This may be a bit tricky as we've been fed so much in the way of fear and dread, particularly in the last 6 months or so. The Moon's north node is going to go over some very difficult degrees in Libra in the coming months - but all of that is really quite an illusion - our challenge is to keep smiling, keep shining. Keep on keeping on :)
