July looks set to be a month of continued release as we let go of more of the ‘stuff’ and clutter in our lives. We all have it; whether it’s physical clutter around the house, a cluttered laptop or a stuffed-up mind.
Sometimes the strangest things can trigger a memory. Some people find reading a book can trigger a domino-effect of memories, for others, it’s a single word or sentence. Others find it’s a film or a song.
Change is a constant in life. Sometimes we embrace it wholeheartedly and other times we resist it with every atom in our being. Occasionally we fight it, only to realise how positive it has been, and there are times when the opposite happens.
It’s as though we are in-between two chapters of our lives, but the in-between space contains more oomph and emotion than we ever considered possible. Despite the confusion, the light finds a way through and it’s time to set the pain free that’s been lodged deep within our hearts and souls.
It’s hard to believe we’re already in February! The festive period feels like it was only yesterday, but the daffodils are already bursting up into the sunlight waiting for their opportunity to carpet the landscape vibrant hues of yellow.
Many of us begin each new year with a whole list of resolutions and goals. We may strive to lose weight, save more money, work harder, work less or a whole host of other things, as we shape and define the course of the year ahead with a ‘to do’ list.
It’s easy to look back at the ‘bigger picture’ of the year, to those experiences that have shaped and flavoured everything else, as it’s usually only a small - and often incongruent - selection of experiences that come together to define the essence of our lives.
We’re all looking for something. Be it a better life, a better relationship, an enriching career, a spiritual purpose, happiness, less pain, fulfilment or contentment (to name but a few). We’re all looking for something, seeking out maybes, searching for hope.
When we are born, the stories of our lives are, on the whole, unwritten and undefined. Letters dance around, slowly forming words, and then sentences. As we grow and evolve, the sentences grow and merge, forming storylines and beliefs.
There have been times of my life when I've felt as though I've been moving backwards when everyone - and everything - else has been moving forwards. Occasionally I've been lucky enough to stop to reassess myself and my life, but the world has continued to shift in ways that have felt counter-intuitive to me.
