Balancing Excitement and Peace

There is a balance to be struck between your yearnings toward spiritual enlightenment and peace and your desire to be vibrantly connected to this life.  For one of the fun parts of this lifetime is excitement, hope, expectation, and yet you know that this is the cause of disappointment and frustration.  And yet the avoidance of expectation can seem flat, without that extra zip of hope, the heart beating faster, the rush of possibility.

If you want to keep this adrenalin rush, yet avoid falling too far when the drug is withdrawn and you crash out of your daydreams, there are several things that you can do.

First, keep your pool of peace and calm in your center, always.  And even when you are allowing yourself that rush of excitement and energy which encircles an exciting new prospect, keep a floating awareness that the peaceful core in your center is what is real, what is solid and true, and that this fun excitement is a temporary diversion.  Allow it to be a part of your life, but do not give in to it as reality.

Secondly, do not spin fantasies that this event or person is what will finally lead you to peace, fulfillment and love.  These attributes are truly the fruits of your personal spiritual growth and not the results of outside events, no matter how momentous.

And then life will continue, and what you were so excited about will become a part of this moment or will not.  And either way, the reality will differ from your expectation in many, many ways, and you will find yourself disappointed in what did not come to pass and in what did, while also pleasantly surprised in many other ways.

But if you have kept your center pool of peace and truth, then this new emotion can also just sit on top of your being lightly, not go deeply into your core.

Learn to keep this balance.  Indulge yourself in your emotions as you indulge yourself in that occasional piece of chocolate.  But keep your foundation strong.  Keep your center always cool and calm and peaceful, connected to the only truth which there is:  you and your truth, anchored within this moment and this moment only.

Be the ocean and let the waves pass.  As the ocean, deep and true, even a major storm can come and go and you are still whole and centered.  You are that ocean.  You hold.  You stay.

Here is a little prayer for today

I am as deep and wide as the ocean.  I move, I change and flow, but I am eternal and deep, a pool of peace, truth and love, ever here, stable and complete.

I love myself completely and honor the truth that I am.  I am whole and complete, stable and true, and deeply connected to all that is, one with the great all that I am.

I am truth and love.  I am a deep abiding peace.  I am.
