Pinstripes over your gypsy soul

Your family and your society have laid out a wardrobe for you, clothing for the ways they think it acceptable that you be and act.  There are outfits for work, outfits for your role in your parental family and the family you have created yourself, outfits for you to wear to church, outfits for the art class and dance studio.  Some of these are very restricting and make you feel very constrained.  And none of them allow you to be all of the things you are.

For you are a great and joyous gypsy soul, bursting with colorful and bright talents and skills, creative ideas sparkling out all over you, deeply held beliefs shining within, fun explorations wrapped like bright scarves around you.  You are so many things, there is no way that a wardrobe created by society, even by truly wonderful and creative parts of society, is likely to fit exactly who you are.

What I wish for you to do today is end the conflict over this.  You are who you are.  You are a bright and sparkling you, no matter what clothing you wear during the day or at night.  You are still you.  There is nothing dishonest and there need be no conflict, if parts of your life require you to dress a certain way.  There is no need to show the world all that you are at all times.  It is not appropriate or successful and not even a kindness to others.

Hold within yourself the truth of who you are.  As long as the wardrobe you wear is broad enough to allow the parts of yourself to shine out at different times in your life, it is not necessary to shine in all ways all the time.  Learn to just put on the pinstriped suit over your gypsy soul, go out into the world and accomplish whatever it is you wish to accomplish.  You are still your sparkling self.

For your true self wears no clothes at all.  Your true self is so sparkling and clear, honest and true, that you could walk naked through the room and all anyone would see is a blaze of color and light.

But sometimes there is work which needs to be done:  the ploughing of the fields and the changing of the diapers and the bedpan, the collecting of the garbage and the clearing of the tables.  All of this is honest work, as is the meeting with the investment team to fund your project, the daily paperwork shuffle on your desk, the mundane and the thrilling; all of it is a part of life.

It is not all glamorous. It is not all rewarding, but it is a part of your life.  And for these different things which must be done, and for the different parts of your life, it is not dishonest to simply be that worker or that daughter for a time, wearing those tight and sometimes oddly fitting clothes, in order that others may be comfortable around you and so that the work can get done quickly and well, or so that the family event can progress without conflict.

Give yourself permission to do this.  The important part is that you realize that you are not these clothes.  The important part is that you realize that you are a sparkling blaze of color, a thrilling and creative streak of wonder.  And every so often, let yourself be this, on the dance floor or in the studio, on the stage or in the forest, running across the field or standing under the waterfall, whatever it is that lets you know and connect with all of the wonder that is you.

Yes, this true and shining self may be too much for many others.  Yes, your shine is blinding, your presence enormous, and sometimes life asks that you contain it for a time.  This is all right, as long as you know that it is a suit of clothes that you are putting on, as long as you know that you are energy and light, not even flesh and blood, that the true self is your soul self and the rest is illusion in any event.  Even this naked body of flesh that you see in the mirror is not truly you, for you are light and love, you are sparkling wonder.  And so what does it matter if you put on a nurse’s uniform on Thursday and a tutu on Friday night?  It does not matter, for you know who you are.

Here is a little prayer for today

I am light and love.  I am a sparkling wonder, full of talent and skill, full of joy, laughter and love.  I am all things great and good.  I am all things bright and true.  I shine out with my wonder always.  No matter where I am, no matter what I am wearing, always and ever I am aware of my true self sparkling within and without.

I am light.  I am truth and power.  I am.
