Monthly Astrological Overview: April 2013

An Holistic Revolution……

The month begins with a powerful Stellium of planets in Aries (Sun, Venus, Mars and Uranus) made all the more potent by its square to Pluto. Energy is building here. Can you feel it? A need for freedom of expression, liberty, self-determination, personal agency and autonomy are all gaining greater urgency. In short: a new way of being is needed. One which enables authenticity and reveals the lies we are all fed, to keep us in line with a system which increasingly serves the few at the expense of the many. Yes… in a word, revolution is in the air!

The form this revolution will take is largely up to us. But one thing’s for certain, in this day and age it needs to be an holistic revolution: a revolution of the heart, mind, body and soul. We do not have to accept that money is king, materialism is the way and never ending growth is the be all and end all.

We could decide that ‘sufficient for our needs’ is enough, that the less we have the more we’ll cherish and small is beautiful. We could decide that the poor of this world no longer starve to death while others throw food away. We could decide to embrace the diversity of our world, of faith, race and culture, sexual orientation and gender, varying levels of physical and mental ability, creating societies and communities in which there is no outsider, only individuals, each as precious as the other, contributing to the beauty of the whole.

Feels like a utopian vision, I know, but like I said….energy is building, and a watershed is approaching. We need to be ready: to stand up when we’re called, stand firm when we must and stand down when we know that the space and resources we’re using are more than we should command on this crowded planet of ours. Neptune is eager to help us out here.

For the first ten days of April it gives us a stronger than usual visionary insight into the potential for our world, so if we can let Neptune speak to us now, we may just begin to see and know the true potential for these times in which we live. As ruler of the now retreating Piscean Age, Neptune has been somewhat like the host of a party for the past two and a half thousand years…..it can be hard work keeping everyone happy, making sure it’s all going smoothly and checking arrivals to make sure they’re invited! It’s only at someone else’s party that we can really relax and enjoy ourselves. Now Neptune is preparing to attend someone else’s party and really getting ready to enjoy it!

So what does Neptune look like when it can just be itself, no holds barred? In a word: love. It looks like love. It is love. Trouble is, we rarely know what that means, so we might mistake some things – such as neediness or attachment – for love, and overlook love in some of its less obvious guises. These first ten days of April are an opportunity to learn more about love and to discover some of its less recognisable faces. For whatever faces of love are revealed to us during this time, they are the ones we need to focus upon during the coming weeks in which we have three eclipses and the next Uranus/Pluto square.

This manifestation of love will be different for different people. Perhaps Neptune will be speaking to you of the fiery love needed in a parent whose children require protection, or the gentle and expansive love needed to nurse someone through their final days on this earth. Perhaps your path will be one of love for the stranger in our midst, for the outcast who has become invisible within our societies. Maybe it is love within your community or love for the whole planet.

Maybe it is the tough love of withdrawing a prop from someone that finally enables them to stand on their own two feet. Or perhaps the romantic love of soul merging is something that Neptune calls you to contemplate and experience now. Or perhaps there is an entirely new face of love into which you need to gaze in the first days of April. Each of us will know, if we allow Neptune to guide us.

And allow it we must, because come 18th April an eclipse season begins and what we learn about the nature of love in the first half of the month will be put into practice in the second and beyond. Eclipse seasons, which last for about 36 days, are notoriously unpredictable! But one thing we can know…. things will be shaken up, we will be shaken up, and the qualities that we need to get through the challenges and tap the potential of this time will be of a new order to what we have needed before.

Every eclipse season comes with a nuance and an energy that creates the conditions for the new to emerge, for the unimaginable to occur and for the unpredictable to take its place within the universe. That this eclipse season is coupled with the next Uranus Pluto square (you can read about the last one here)  next month, reminds us not to underestimate the potential for these coming few weeks to be of enormous importance in the evolution of this planet. In fact it seems to me that the astrological energies of this eclipse season (18th April to 26th May) are far more potent and powerful than any we have seen to date. We need to sit up and take notice!

Which is why Neptune is having its say right before this season begins, and also why a number of significant astrological structures that have been with us for several weeks fade away between 10th and 23rd April. Space is being made for the new… in space! And as above so below. We too need to be clearing space and letting go of old structures that are holding us back, be they internal or external.

Physical or emotional. We need, now, to be resting within the spaces in our lives, in the gaps that can give rise to new hope and potential, not clinging on to the bits that feel safely familiar and yet strangely jaded and lifeless at the same time. It requires a willingness to not know for a time, to lose our familiar signposts and landmarks, but if we can live like that for as long as we need, eventually the space we create will give rise to the new and we can move onward again.

From 10th April to the month end we see Jupiter, Chiron and the North Node supporting us with our inner work, giving us the strength we need to create the space required. But at the same time they challenge us to approach our lives afresh, not allowing the mind to talk us into a state of fear which can paralyse us into inaction. They remind us that no matter how bad things may look to our mind and ego, from the perspective of the heavens all is happening as it needs to, everything is in its right place. Perhaps that message in itself is yet another face of love that we need to embrace at this time? Perhaps we need to remember that the judgements of ‘love and not love’ themselves need to be let go now. We all have this work to do. None of us are immune…

With Pluto turning retrograde on 12th April, preparing to shift into position for the next square with Uranus in May, we are given a further helping hand, but not in a velvet glove, and certainly not with a delicate grasp! This is a hand that will drag us where we need to be if we’re unwilling to go along of our own accord. After all, Pluto abducted Persephone into the underworld. She wasn’t given a choice! Pluto doesn’t deal in choices, only necessities, and the necessity now is that we turn within to review our own relationship with power in our lives.

To see where we expect to be able to exercise power over the world, where we believe ourselves to be entitled. Where we expect to be in control. And wherever that is Pluto will remind us that our personal power is a fragile thing when we’re up against the forces of the universe, and until we can recognise and embrace that fact we’ll be wasting a whole load of energy struggling against a tide that will engulf us anyway. Far better to arm ourselves with the right equipment and be prepared to ride the rapids for a while, letting them take us where it is they need us to go!

So… do you feel the energy building? I do. Everywhere. In me and around me. Above me and below me. The next few weeks will be quite a ride and I hope you’ll join me on it. We’ll see where it takes us. And wherever that is, is where we’re meant to be. So come the first eclipse (lunar) on 25th April we’ll be ready to be surprised, to be stimulated, to be challenged, ready because we’ve understood that Neptune’s love and Pluto’s iron fist are one and the same thing….both wanting only for us to return to the source of all that is, where nothing is lacking and no one is lost. Let’s agree to meet up there!

Thank you for taking the time out to visit my web site and read my thoughts. Enjoy the month ahead!
