Enjoying The Fruits Of Our Labors And Stopping To Smell The Roses: The Virgo Full Moon

Where there are friends there is wealth. Titus Maccius Plautus

Don’t take up a man’s time talking about the smartness of your children; he wants to talk to you about the smartness of his children. Ed Howe

‘Tis the privilege of friendship to talk nonsense, and have her nonsense respected.

The full Moon in March falls on March 17 in Australia and March 16 in the US. This is an interesting full Moon and one that holds a fair bit of frustration, along with the desire to get going and make something happen. The trick is getting things done in the few days leading up to the full Moon as the Sun and Saturn will be trine and that makes for a useful source of can-do energy. Having said that, Mars and Saturn are retrograde and that can have a two steps forward, one step back, one step forward, two steps back kind of quality about it. Mercury has gone direct now, though, so things are, on some levels picking up speed and Venus has passed it's retrograde shadow, so there's good things going on. On the slightly difficult side is the ongoing Jupiter/Uranus/Pluto t-square that can be frustrating and can feel like we're trudging knee high in treacle.

The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon is Virgo 27: Aristocratic Elderly Ladies Drinking Afternoon Tea In A Wealthy Home. From my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom:

This is a Symbol of people meeting to share a drink, something to eat, and a little chatter or gossip. The fact that they are ‘Aristocratic’ and ‘Elderly’ implies that they have everything they need, and quite possibly more. It also shows that they have an air of ‘Wealth’ and grace about them, regardless of how ‘Wealthy’ they actually are.

With this Symbol, regardless of your actual financial situation, there’s a need to face things with elegant composure. This will attract the respect of others. There is no need to hurry and rush; however being punctual and on time is probably important. Sharing your time with people who quietly know and understand each other can bring peace of mind and the opportunity to relax and take time off. Sometimes issues that really should be discussed are “masked” and covered up in an effort to keep things looking respectable. Sharing stories and gossiping can be rather healthy, as long as things are kept within the bounds of friendship and decency. Others can feel excluded, however, particularly younger people and men. They may feel that they don’t fit in or measure up. Is everybody having a relaxing ‘Afternoon Tea’, or are they trying to outdo each other in some measure?

Keywords: Quite knowing atmosphere. Enjoying the company of others. Special privileges. Taking time off to relax, confident that all is ok. The elite versus the masses. The appreciation of culture. Beauty and wealth. Gossip and chatter. Afternoon teas, brunches and lunches. Charity drives. Being in the group. Exclusivity vs. open armed acceptance. Ladies at the club. Girls having fun. Knowing how to entertain. Joy in social communion. Servants. Fine furnishings. Fine china. Silver cutlery. Candles. Bridge games. Toasting abundance. Tea, coffee, cake and biscuits. Soirees.

The Caution: Snobbery and elitism. Always having to go to others or have them come to you. People expecting others to do all the work while they just sit around and chat. Mindless talk. Indulgent behavior. Having little to think about or do. Exclusion of others
as not being worthy. Loneliness. Being rowdy and unkempt. Uncouth behaviour. "Hitting the bottle".

On Facebook and other social media, I keep hearing the expression "let them eat cake"... there is such a divide between the haves and the have-nots and it seems to be widening, or, at least, gaping uncomfortably and things appear to be going in the wrong direction when it comes to social and economic equality and level playing fields.

The Karmic Condition (the degree before) this full Moon is Virgo 25: A Boy With A Censer Serves Near The Priest At The Altar. This Symbol can see people having a lesser position or filling a lesser role than they perhaps could. Sometimes, we find ourselves working or 'serving' beside someone who is cemented-on to a job or a position of power and we're picking up the slack for them. The trick to remember is that there are often opportunities to move up the ranks and that we don't always have to be the 'boy with the censer', we can be the elders, the 'experienced ones'.

In Australia, this degree Symbol smarts a little at the moment as there is the ongoing and huge Royal Commission into the abuse of children, particularly in the churches and particularly in the Catholic Church. There are horrendous stories of abuse in our media every single day - it is painful to observe what these people have been through - both men and women - and at the hands of those society should have been able to have respected. It is outrageous and the church is dodging, again, its responsibilities (or trying to...).

Keywords: Youthful attitudes. Doing what’s simple, with silence and devotion. Participating in the toil but not the glory. Altars and shrines. Incense. Burning candles. Passing down wisdom and knowledge. Looking up to those in power. Work experience. Apprenticeships. Feelings of awe and respect. Religious and social ceremonies. Issues of authority and the abuse of it. Playing "second fiddle".

The Caution: Being dominated by spiritual hierarchy that is devised by human rationalism. Doing “lesser things” to avoid responsibility. Not taking a place of authority when one could or should. Feeling like one isn’t good enough because of inexperience. Someone always hanging around. Incompetence. Refusal to take instruction. Sexual abuse. Betrayal of beliefs. The church overpowering one's life.

The Quest Degree (the degree following) is Virgo 28: A Baldheaded Man In Uniform Has Seized Power. As always, there is ongoing talk of war and sabre rattling, etc. I wonder who this particular 'Baldheaded Man In Uniform' is going to be? Perhaps Putin? Again, this degree asks that we don't let others bully or push us around...

Keywords: Dominating other’s mental space. Male hormones running rampant. Issues to do with hair. Ponytails. The story of Samson and his hair. Taking positions of power. Uniforms. Demanding others follow one’s lead. Strutting one’s stuff. “Wearing the pants in the family”. The ability to direct and organize many people. Letting others express their opinions or have a say in things. Domination. The Government. The Military. Decisions based on logic. Taking action or control.

The Caution: Pushing too hard or fast. Ramming one’s convictions. Being unkind and bossy. Putting on a show because one’s in uniform. Power tripping. Being cruel and domineering. Lording it over others. Being opportunistic. Corruption. Misuse of power. Bullying. Big business calling the shots. Domestic violence. Taking charge because one can. Strict rules to live your life by. Taking over. Not listening to what others have to say.

The Sun is on Pisces 27: A Harvest Moon Illuminates The Sky. I really love this degree and there are three Sabian Symbols at the end of Pisces that talk about the Moon - so this is a rather 'lunar' part of the zodiac.

Keywords: Situations that are very ripe and full of fruition. Celebrating what you have. Expanded perspective making everything clear. A sense of achievement. Seizing the moment to make the most of what’s possible. Nature’s bounty. The beauty of the moon in the night sky.

The Caution: Neglecting the tasks at hand because of the appearance of abundance. Achievements waning because of neglect. Wasting energy on inconsequential activities. "Lunatic" behavior. Not being able to sleep.

The ruler of the full Moon is Mercury on Aquarius 29: A Butterfly Emerging From A Chrysalis. Time for a lot of people (projects, creativity, spirituality, relationships) to emerge from their cocoons.

Keywords: Slow building of confidence. Coming out into a fuller participation in the bigger picture. Growing up and out. Emerging from the dark. Leaving yesterday behind. Becoming more and more beautiful. Finding one’s feet or wings. Metamorphosis. Huge changes in the works. Giving up struggling. The drama of new life unfolding.

The Caution: Failing to allow changes to be experienced. Feeling like one will never “arrive”. Struggling to emerge ahead of time. Feeling confined. Being tied to the past. Rushing leading to disorientation or injury.

Venus is on Aquarius 10: A Man Who Thought He Was The Embodiment Of An Ideal Is Made To Realise That As A Person, He Is Not That Ideal. This is a pretty full-on degree where we may be looking at ourselves, or, often and more likely, at othes in our lives and feeling that they haven't lived up to their responsibilities, or that you have outgrown some people or places or jobs or whatever. This is a degree of waking up to situations for what they truly are. The trick is not to turn blame on others but rather to work towards what IS the embodiment of the ideal.

Keywords: Staying true to oneself. Ideas that look great for a time, but lose their gloss. Lost opportunities. Waking up just in time. Depression. Self-esteem issues. Projections of personality. Not clearly seeing people. Realizing that people have changed. False expectations. Falling off the pedestal. Finding one's core identity.

The Caution: Clinging to false feelings of fame. Not accepting that things have moved on or changed. Disillusionment and disappointment. Losing one’s faith. Religious questions and doubts. Aiming too high. Reversals of fortune. Idols and idolizing. Self pity. Giving up. Being slammed by others.

Mars has recently gone retrograde and it is on Libra 27: An Airplane Sails High In The Bright Clear Sky. Mars is retrograding and will be retrograde until mid-May. This can have some things on the back-burner and can bring relationships into sharp focus. Mars retro, especially in Libra where it is the least comfortable, can have us analysing relationships, our objectives and where we're heading and this can be a meaningful time of observation and waiting for conditions to improve so we can strike out for the things we want.

Keywords: Transcending difficulties or escape from reality. Optimism that knows no bounds. A bird’s eye view of things. Detachment. Objectivity. Chemical influences. Freedom from life’s routine. Pilots and planes. Clear air turbulence. Roller coaster rides. Awareness of up and down, left and right, in and out. Sense of destination. Decreasing gravity. Acceleration of time. Fish eye lens. The need for navigation.

The Caution: Difficulty in seeing the true details of what’s going on. Escape from reality. Running out of fuel. Egoism. Playing with gravity. Disconnection with the everyday world.

Jupiter has just gone direct on Cancer 11: A Clown Is Caricaturing Well-Known Personalities. I guess the old saying of "smile and the world smiles with you" is probably fairly apt for right now... it can be a case of laugh or cry for many - and putting on a brave face can work, at least in some situations. In others, it may lead to people not seeing the true situation of what is going on for you and this can bring about less than authentic responses and outcomes. Still, Jupiter is a planet of optimism - at least that is its reputation - and abundance and expansion, so smiling and being light-hearted is probably the best bet while we figure out where we really stand on some things.

Keywords: Exaggerated responses. Wanting to entertain. Show business. Trying to be something or someone that one’s not. Putting on a face. Comic performances. Parodies of personalities. Making fun of someone. Clowns and clowning. Life imitating art. Always performing. Irony. Satire. Objective observance. Criticism. Laughter. Caricatures. Cartoons. Lampooning. Voice impressions.

The Caution: Being foolish in the face of positive potential. Trying to cover up reality through buffoonery. Being constantly “on stage”. Living vicariously. Inauthentic behavior. Not having the courage to display one’s true self. Putting on a face to manipulate or fool others. Irritating behavior that wears thin after a while. Being the laughing stock. Overblown impressions. Loss of true identity.

Saturn has just gone retrograde on Scorpio 24: Crowds Coming Down The Mountain To Listen To One Man. Do you feel that you are being heard? Have you got a message you want to share? Have you got a platform to speak from? Is there someone who is getting a lot of air-time who perhaps shouldn't? How is being listened to and who isn't?

Keywords: Power to sway the feelings and thoughts of many. The ability to draw a large audience. The Jesus story. Giving one’s power away to those who apparently have more authority. Charisma. Having a large audience. The minds and the ears of the many. Oratory skills. Gurus. Listening. Ascending the mountain to achieve a purer state of being. Lecturing. Having a voice and an audience.

The Caution: Naiveté, gullibility. Feeling like someone else holds all the answers, but you don’t. Situations that smack of guru mentality. Idolatry and the manipulation that can result from it. Never knowing when to keep quiet. Forcing ideas on others when they don’t really want to listen. Not letting anyone else get a word in. Demanding attention. Feeling above everyone else. Snobbery.

Uranus is on Aries 12: A Flock Of Wild Geese. This Symbol can show gathering together with others for group causes. It can also show the need to be free and to be able to take off when you want to (or the desire to be able to, whether it is possible to do it now, or not).

Keywords: Aquarian ideals of brotherhood. Attunement to planetary rhythms. Spirit liberated from matter. Wanting to take off by one’s self, but not being able to. Focused group activity and support. Group mentality, action and agreement. Intuition and telepathy. Choreography. Camaraderie. “Honking” to egg each other on. Flying in the slipstream. Responses to seasonal changes. Migrating at the right times. Traveling. Herds, gangs, broods. Flying in formation.

The Caution: Following the leader without knowing where one’s going. Never knowing where to land, or where to ground oneself. Wild goose chases. Not recognizing the brotherhood in humanity. Losing a sense of individual identity. Going off in the wrong direction. Being lost in the crowd. Being one of a gaggle.

Neptune is on Pisces 6: A Parade Of Army Officers In Full Dress. Issues do with the military and having to turn up, be on duty, to dress the part, to fulfill your role, etc, can come up.

Keywords: National pride on display. Reminders of those putting life and limb on the line for  kin and country. Uniforms, hats. People seeking recognition from the community, regardless of what they’ve personally achieved. Patriotism. Memories of war. Being committed to service. Medals. Stripes. Uniformity. Grinning and bearing it. Projecting the “right image”. Drills and routines. Displays of courage. Assembling together. Braiding and piping. Spit and polish. Parades and marching. Police and law enforcement. Guns and bayonets. The importance of looking good.

The Caution: “Stiff” and unfeeling displays. Having special privileges that other’s don’t. Doing what one must do. Hiding behind a façade. Not being prepared, or able, to show one’s true self. Drills and boring routines. “Drill sergeants” who scream and shout. People parading their importance. False courage. Taking the glory away from the little people. Wearing anything.

Pluto is on Capricorn 14: An Ancient Bas-Relief Remains A Witness To A Long-Forgotten Culture. What belongs in the past and should be honored, or, perhaps should be left in the past? It's curious how there are so many reports of ancient pyramids, or underwater cities or civilizations are being found.

Keywords: Anonymous immortality. Things written or carved in stone, or concrete. Permanent records. Clues from the past. Things that should be shaped and changed with the times. Pieces of art or sculpture. Things that belong in a museum. Inscriptions and carvings. Ancient civilizations and their relics. History.

The Caution: Limitations that don’t allow for changes. Old and outworn situations. Things carved in stone that cannot, or will not, ever change. Memories out of the past that keep one frozen in time. Feeling stuck in the past, like no growth is possible. Frigidity of feelings because of things that have happened.

The Moon's north node is on Libra 29: Mankind's Vast Enduring Effort To Reach For Knowledge Transferable From Generation To Generation. Teaching and learning and passing on knowledge and realisations and insights to others is strong with this node and Mars is conjunct (together with) this north node, so there can be a strong push to get things going... still, many are feeling a bit stymied. Perhaps it's time for more learning and more passing on of knowledge as this can build up our storehouse of what we have to offer when the energies are ready for a forward push. Of course, some people are feeling a forward momentum, but for many, it's the old two steps forward, one step back.

Keywords: Interpreting and conveying beliefs and ideas. The desire to pass on something to others. Handing down possessions or knowledge. Knowledge being changed, modified or updated. Teaching by example. The wisdom of the ancestors. Research into history. Striving for answers. Books and the spoken word. Encyclopedias and reference books. The gift of knowledge.

The Caution: A belief that one knows it all. Information, knowledge or riches inherited by only the select few. Reliance on tradition. Fundamentalism. Doing what’s always been done, regardless of the reason.

Chiron is on Pisces 15: An Officer Drilling His Men In A Simulated Attack. As always, Chiron represents the part of us that is wounded and needs a healing, or, the part of us that is the healer and can help others with their difficult situations or problems. Chiron here, though, can have stories that get out of hand. One has to be careful with this Symbol that the 'attack' that one thinks may be coming may never come. As some have said, worrying is praying for something you don't want. However, on the other hand to be prepared is a very good strategy and one that can ensure a better response to any future issues that have to be dealt with.

Keywords: Taking orders to better respond to situations. The higher self training the lower self. Exercises. Marching and going through the motions. The need for defense. Seeing ahead. Planning strategies. Fire drills. Smoke alarms. Being prepared. Issuing orders and expecting them to be followed through. Discipline. Martial arts of all kinds. Going over and over possible outcomes. Safeguards put in place. Gas masks and bomb shelters.

The Caution: Rigid routine for no real or valuable purpose. Feeling that one has always to be on the defensive. Being under attack, whether real or imagined. Overreacting to things. Feelings of unworthiness in the face of battle or confrontation. Victim consciousness. Fearful responses. Getting others to respond through spreading fear. Scare tactics.

I wish everyone a wonderful full Moon, with lots of en-lightening experiences and a lovely cup of tea with friends and plenty of cake for everyone :)

First time I've seen your Sabian post. I love the Sabian Symbols, thanks to Dane Rudyar's great book which I owned 30 years' ago, and 'lost' in my many moves since then.
Your post is so good, so spot on with what is hapenning for me just now = giving me insights and ways to hold my own experience and awareness of it - and so, to grow. Yeah!!
How often do you post them?
Love, Light and Blessings
