Reunions, Reruns and Running The Race: November's Sagittarian New Moon

November's Sagittarius new Moon occurs on November 22 in Australia and November 21 in the United States. This new Moon has a particularly 'martial' or 'military' feel to it, with the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Uranus all having this tone or flavor. Also, the degrees that follow for some of the other planets, such as Mars and Neptune, also have military or martial tones to them. It is a very curious line-up of planets, but then there often is a theme of some sort that shines through - it is just that this is a very pointed theme. How we handle it may be a measure of our ability to stand strong with our belief in the goodness of life and that good things are unfolding - and exactly as they should be. Of course, many people are having a good time in their lives, but for those who are feeling rather tested or pushed, this could be a time of having to reconnect with one's positive thoughts and feelings.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sagittarius new Moon is Sagittarius 1: Retired Army Veterans Gather to Reawaken Old Memories - are you running into friends, lovers, relatives, etc, that you haven't seen for a very long time? Are you meeting people who you feel like you've known forever, even if you are new acquaintances? Are you tired of the talk of war and fighting and people arguing and not getting in, tired of rifts between people when there should perhaps be love and comaraderie? Does the holiday season bring up all kinds of issues between family or friends? Is scheduling time together an issue?

The following interpretations are from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

This is an image of a gathering or reunion of people who have shared some kind of companionship, struggle or history. In this ‘Gathering’, comrades reminisce about tales of the “old days”, ‘Reawakening Old Memories’. Gathering together can ignite old feelings of camaraderie and great passions, even amongst people that they may not remember or know so well. This can evoke many emotions, all the way from sadness to laughter and amazement.

In the situation facing you, going over the memories of “old battles” may bring clues to how you can handle any current ones. You may be drawn to those who have shared your struggle or have gone through similar battles in life. Perhaps you haven’t seen each other for a very long time. Through sharing these ‘Old Memories’, old wounds can be healed as new insights are gleaned. There’s a need to be cautious, though, as this ‘Gathering’ can often exclude those who don’t measure up or fit in. This Symbol can point to a feeling of having to be "in the club”, with those that don’t share these memories feeling as though they’re on the outside, looking in. Are there people who feel that they are left out of sharing these experiences? Having not had the same history, experiences or the woes of battle that the others have, can make them feel that they are on the other side of the fence, and, in extreme cases, they may seem like “the enemy”. Also, the ‘Gathering to Reawaken Old Memories’ can reinforce injuries, wounds and hurts and these can be brought up so that they’re rehashed over and over. This can cause difficulties in healing, recovery, forgiving and forgetting, all of which may be necessary in order to move on. As these are ‘Retired Army Veterans’, it’s through the passing of time and with the hindsight of age that many things can be laid to rest.

Keywords: Masculine domains. Understanding the individual’s needs and idealistic struggles. Moratoriums and calls for peace. Past life memories of fellowship. Prisoners of war. Memorials to war. Bringing up painful memories in the hope of sharing understanding and healing. Tears of the past. Being confronted by memories. School, and other, reunions. Talking over strategies. Finding comrades. Brothers and sisters.

The Caution: Being unable to let go of the past. Exaggerating past successes to justify current strategies. Excluding others as being “unworthy”, having not experienced the struggle or pain. Going over things from the past and never letting them go. Boasting and glorifying. Identities that belong in the past.

Venus is conjunct (together with) this new Moon on Sagittarius 8: Deep Within The Depths Of Earth, New Elements Are Being Formed. This Symbol can show things happening subliminally -you can feel things cooking but they may take some time to germinate, to come to light, to mature enough to act upon them. Perhaps you're changing (or your world is changing) on a very deep level and you need some time to allow any new developments to come to light.

Keywords: Deep elemental processes and change. Shifting of conservative values. Mining in its many forms. Crystal healings. Minerals, mining, colloidal minerals. Organic changes and shifts. Volcanoes and earthquakes. Earth rumblings. Reaching maturity. Earth, wind, fire and water. Mud and steam. Alchemical shifts.

The Caution: Moving forward while elements are still forming. Denying inner processes as unimportant. Not showing any change on the surface. Clinging stubbornly to old and outworn ways. Being afraid of change, particularly that which can’t be seen. Unhealthy growths. Tumors.

This is an interesting week for Venus as in the day before the new Moon, Venus is on Sagittarius 7 (which is, of course, the Karmic Condition - the degree before). Sagittarius 7 is Cupid Knocking At The Door Of A Human Heart. This Symbol speaks of the opening of the heart and perhaps that's what is needed most at this time, especially with all that's going on on the planet.

Keywords: Respectful invitation of love. Seeing purity of motive. Fear of commitment. Fear of romance. A key or an arrow. Cupids and cherubs. Unlocking the heart. One-pointed, focused energy, which can become obsessive. Softening one’s boundaries. Cupid’s bow. The need to lighten up one’s approach to others.

The Caution: Waiting instead of taking the initiative. Rejecting love or emotion for fear of losing independence. Keeping up a strong, brave, severe face when one could be loosening up and enjoying another. Barriers and defenses around the heart. Seeing potential lovers in everyone. Being attracted to those you wouldn’t normally notice. Frigid responses.

Jupiter, the ruler of this Sagittarian new Moon, is on Leo 23: A Bare-Back Rider In A Circus Displays His Dangerous Skill. This Symbol, especially with Jupiter here, can show the possibility, the need or the desire, to be able to run into the ring, to get going with the things you want to get going with. Whether it's doing a performance, launching a website, teaching a class, strutting your stuff or showing your talents in some other way, this is a degree that can have people running off to do something. This can be something you've been training for or rehearsing, or, in some cases, it can be some impetuous urge that strikes when you least expect it. The thing that might need to be considered is just how ready you are for this, do you know your lines, your moves, your outcomes? Are you well versed in what it is that you want to do? Of course, with Jupiter here, there can be a wonderful stroke of luck that erupts and moves you forward in amazing new and unexpected ways.

Keywords: Defying gravity. Controlling one’s animal instincts. Courage and mastery over one’s energies. Shows of strength. Situations where one might get “bucked”. Rushing in where angels fear to tread. Being shown in the media. The allure of drama and danger. Life as a circus or carnival. Amazing displays of skill. Superheroes. Comic book characters. Impressing people with well-rehearsed skills.

The Caution: “Showing off”, losing control and falling. Demanding attention. Looking for applause. Fooling with nature’s energies. Arousing or controlling animal passions. Acting wildly and not thinking about the consequences.

Mercury is on Scorpio 22: Hunters Protected By Heavy Clothing Are Shooting Wild Ducks. Mercury is in a tight square aspect to Jupiter, which can show big ideas, overblown reactions, overstating things, being bold, wanting to break through restrictions and limitations on any level. This aspect can also add to a feeling of having to do something *now*. Both Symbols can imply the need to respect the rights and protection of animals, or, perhaps, it's more about our 'animal nature' - our sensitivities and feelings may need some kind of protection. The 'Hunters' of this Symbol can bring about a feeling of people being 'sitting ducks', or, it can bring up the need to protect those that can't (or won't perhaps) protect themselves.

Keywords: Satiating one’s aggressive desires. Being able to hit the mark. Putting up with violence in one’s life, whether physical, mental, spiritual or emotional. Road, and other, types of rage. The armed services and their responsibilities. War. Terrorism in its many forms. Camouflage. Being an armed force. Armaments.

The Caution: Exploitation of those who are more vulnerable. Taking unfair advantage of the innocent or the less experienced. Feeling like a sitting duck. Nowhere to run or hide. Hormones running rampant. Mindless violence. War crimes tribunals. Gang warfare. Indiscriminate actions.

Mercury's Karmic Condition (the degree before) is Scorpio 21: Obeying His Conscience, A Soldier Resists Orders. Mercury is on this degree right before the new Moon and it will no doubt have quite an effect. People can be quite stubborn with this degree Symbol around, or, they just might want to desert their post rather than stay in a situation that goes against their 'conscience' or desires.

Keywords: Personal morality. Doing what one’s conscience dictates. Going against the status quo. Doing the unexpected. Listening to the promptings of the inner voice. The consequences of having a conscience. Not coming home. People clinging to each other. Love that restrains.

The Caution: Displaying cowardice or a lack of courage to act. Not doing what one is expected to do. ‘Going over the top’ in a wild and crazy way. Going AWOL. Being the one who lets everyone down. Court martials. Antisocial behavior. Anarchists. Being “uncommitted” or “unavailable”. Choosing play instead of duty. Goofing off.

Mars is on Capricorn 21: A Relay Race. This can often show the need to know when to take command of a situation - doing it all yourself- and when to 'pass on the baton' to others so they can continue with the race. Mars here might not like surrendering control, but often when we do this we find that we are relieved of some of the burdens of having to be the one to do everything, to be responsible, to be the one carrying the can.

You have no control over what the other guy does. You only have control over what you do. A. J. Kitt

Keywords: Shared endeavor. Knowing when to hand on responsibilities. Teamwork. Knowing when to finish. Encouragement and trust. Sharing and cooperation. Inheritances. Timing. Being competitive. Taking turns. Handing on responsibilities. Split second timing. Hand eye coordination. Having an on/off switch.

The Caution: Not letting go of control to another . Feeling defeated through feeling that you don’t have the necessary resources to win. Criticism and competitiveness. Acting only for one’s best interests. Competitiveness in inter-reactions and conversation. Butting in when others are talking. Expecting others to do all the work or carry responsibilities. Not sharing the glory or the rewards.

Soon after the new Moon, Mars moves onto the next degree (the Quest Degree) - Capricorn 22: A General Accepting Defeat Gracefully. Here is another 'military' style degree - although, of course, it doesn't have to have anything to do with the military. This Symbol often shows the need to know when to cut our losses, when to say enough is enough, when to admit that pushing something further may not work. There is a reward inherent in pausing, or perhaps stopping, and taking note of what is working and what isn't.

Keywords: True inner worth. Being a “good loser”. Learning that every minor skirmish in life is not a major ‘Defeat’. Being prepared to start again. Sacrificing things for the benefit of others. Nobility of character. Letting go of the “charge” around anger. Surrendering. Knowing when to let go.

The Caution: Being a “bad loser”. Feeling everything is going to come out badly. Reliance on self-limitations. Seeing the negative in everything. Losing what’s been worked for. Making excuses to get out of tight situations. Betrayal and loss. Loss of support. Surrendering too early. Giving up on life.

Rewards come soon in some fashion through Mars moving then onto Capricorn 23: A Soldier Receiving Two Awards For Bravery In Combat.

Keywords: Desperate striving for recognition. Rewards for involvement in tough situations. Medals and trophies. Tributes, acknowledgments and benefits given or showered. Award ceremonies. Posthumous awards. Giving thanks. Compensation. Insurance and legal claims. Recompense for taking action.

The Caution: ‘Awards’ as Band-Aids to assuage guilt produced in war. Expecting money or other rewards for doing anything that one doesn’t want to. The ills, social and otherwise, of combat fighting. Neurotic seeking of praise or acknowledgment. Rejection lines. Bribery.

This run of Mars on this new Moon seems to be saying that working together with others as a team, passing on the baton when needed, and cooperating and performing our various roles, knowing what to push through with and what not and knowing when to quit, can bring about rewards (which, of course, can manifest on many different levels).

Saturn is on Scorpio 27: A Military Band Marches Noisily On Through City Streets. More military. Sounds a bit like military madness... so much noise, pomp, ceremony, drum or chest beating. Saturn here is likely to have some loving it all while others may feel repulsed by so much talk of war, the beating of drums and the theats and postures that are inherent in war or conflicts.

Keywords: Making music to rouse people from complacency. Noisy announcements. Demanding attention. Trumpeting achievements. Reminders from the authorities that individuals are often not in charge. Celebrations of past battles. Corporate advertising. Peace rallies or war marches. Marching and drills. Precision movements. Baton twirling. Drums and trumpets. Spit and polish.

The Caution: A lot of volume that can be too pompous. So much volume that the true message gets lost. Demanding to be heard. Banging one’s drum, even when others might be unresponsive or not want to hear. Blaring announcements. Warnings to others to follow orders or to be complicit. Big ego displays. Propaganda. Threats to peace. Momentary disruptions.

Uranus is on Aries 13: A Bomb Which Failed To Explode Is Now Safely Hidden From Discovery. Sometimes, especially with Uranus here, the bomb is 'Safely Hidden From Discovery', sometimes it is set to go off - exploding and releasing energies that have been pent up for some time. We can find that situations that need to be defused just calm down and disappear or subside, or, we might have to call in the 'bomb-squad' to take care of the damage.

Keywords: Pressure valves. Getting away with something. Tantrums and frustration. Tempers that simmer. Explosive behavior. Bombs, explosions. Sudden and forceful events. Intelligence organizations, CIA, FBI, ASIO, etc. Valuable lessons of self-restraint. Relief from problems. Discharging nervous energy. Security checks. Last minute escapes.

The Caution: Suppressing stress or illness. Doing inappropriate things and thinking the secret safe. Repressing emotions. Undefined anger. Pressure cooker energy that needs to be released slowly. Explosions damaging more than expected. Activists. Deception behind one’s back. Clash of ideals. Terrorism.

Neptune is on Pisces 5: A Church Bazaar. This Symbol can show the need to act together as a community, to put aside our differences, our religions, our creeds, our prejudices even, and work together to achieve something that can benefit the many. Of course, especially with Neptune here, it can show small mindedness that invites some while excluding others.

Keywords: Overcoming loneliness and alienation. Selling things. The issue of real worth. A lot of effort for small rewards. Small scale commercial bartering and interchange. The collection plate. Generosity and charitable community attitudes. Jars of jam and things handmade. Bric-a-brac. Bargains. Practical spirituality. Volunteers. People sharing the load. Charity work. Money raising. Garage or yard sales. Secondhand clothes.

The Caution: Spiritual or social exclusivity. Giving things smaller worth than they deserve. Using people. Deception on the grounds of faith. Fussing about small details. Fighting over “position”. Issues of territory. Pushy people. Social boundaries that exclude some.

The Quest Degree (the degree following) of Neptune is Pisces 6: A Parade Of Army Officers In Full Dress. Yet again, the military. In our lives, though, this Symbol can reflect putting on our 'uniforms' and getting down to work. It can show, along with the Church Bazaar, the need to pull together to help one another.

Keywords: National pride on display. Reminders of those putting life and limb on the line for kin and country. Uniforms, hats. People seeking recognition from the community, regardless of what they’ve personally achieved. Patriotism. Memories of war. Being committed to service. Medals. Stripes. Uniformity. Grinning and bearing it. Projecting the “right image”. Drills and routines. Displays of courage. Assembling together. Braiding and piping. Spit and polish. Parades and marching. Police and law enforcement. Guns and bayonets. The importance of looking good.

The Caution: “Stiff” and unfeeling displays. Having special privileges that others don’t. Doing what one must do. Hiding behind a façade. Not being prepared, or able, to show one’s true self. “Drill sergeants” who scream and shout. People parading their importance. False courage. Taking the glory away from the little people. Wearing anything.

Pluto is on Capricorn 12: A Student Of Nature Lecturing, Revealing Little Known Aspects Of Life. There are many mysteries being revealed and we are all teachers and students. Pluto on this Symbol has been bringing up issues to do with climate change, nature, conservation issues, etc. Perhaps you have something you want to teach or to learn? This Symbol shows the possibility or the necessity of getting down to the nitty-gritty of the 'truth' or the lessons that are inherent in the situation.

Keywords: Observing and translating so others may learn. Green politics. Issues the conservatives don’t want revealed. Nature and natural remedies. Science and its rewards and drawbacks. Issues such as global warming. Whistle blowers. Natural healing methods. Documentaries. Conspiracy theories.

The Caution: Radical non-humanistic views. Intellectual smugness. ‘Lecturing’ and browbeating. Modern technological advances that stifle the environment. Lip service to conservation issues.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer and The Stories We Tell Ourselves, is on Pisces 14: A Lady Wrapped In Fox Fur. Intelligence, wit and beauty tend to elevate situations at times. Perhaps now is one of those times. It can bring up issues to do with dressing well, dressing beautifully or dressing the part that you want to play.

Keywords: Outer expressions of real inner worth. Animal magnetism and attraction. Intelligence and its display. Cloaks of feminine wit and sexuality. Beguiling minds. Animal totems and furs. Perceived beauty. The sense of having class and money. Beauty, fashion and talent. Being forward and upfront. Sense of personal style. Grace and composure. Elegance. Knowing what to say and when. Dressing up. Money spent on beauty. Tempting others with sexual signals. Perfumes. Pheromones. Taxidermy.

The Caution: False fronts and expressions of wealth. Selling out for momentary, or monetary, gain. Wrapped in intellectual superficiality. The fatal allure of beauty. Scoring points solely through charisma. Being so caught up in fashion and glamor that one loses a true sense of self. Being overdressed.

The Quest Degree of Chiron is yet another 'military' type of degree. It's Pisces 15: An Officer Drilling His Men In A Simulated Attack. Now, this degree can show the dangers or difficulties involved if we have bad scenarios or situations of 'what if??!' running through our minds. We can go over things again and again in our minds. On the one hand, this can lead to being 'well rehearsed' (and Jupiter needs that for sure at the moment), or, it can lead to imagining difficulties and 'battles' that are more in one's imagination than in reality. Chiron recently spent several weeks on this degree and it will again go over this degree shortly after the new Moon.

The Moon's north node is on Libra 19: A Gang Of Robbers In Hiding. If you've read this far, I don't want you to be worried about all this martial energy that's going on! The 'Gang Of Robbers In Hiding' can be where we think something bad is going to happen, where we feel that we're going to be taken advantage of, are losing out, or, perhaps depression and upset may be getting the upper hand. Problems can be 'brought to light' with this Symbol and that is the highest aim of it.

Keywords: Gaining unfair advantage. Robbers and thieves. Spying. The cold war. Big business ripping off the “little guy”. People appearing to be something that they are not. Con-men mentality. Holding up proceedings. Mental attitudes that sabotage, restrict or control. The need for light. Voyeurism. Gangs. Private detectives. Ambushes.

The Caution: Gaining unfair advantage at someone else’s expense. Finding it hard to trust anything. Difficult hidden energy that may erupt into consciousness. Feeling that someone is going to “get” you. Hiding in the shadows. Locks and shutters that prevent true relationship. Unbalanced mental states. Paranoia. Distrusting life.

The Karmic Condition of the Moon's north node is Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest Give An Accounting For Their Acts Before The Tribunal Of Society. Who or what  has or is going against the dictates of society, against what people deem as being 'good behaviour'? It seems that some may have to explain their actions while others may be pushed to show mercy to those who, perhaps unknowingly, broke the rules.

Keywords: Having to plead one’s case. The need for “legal help”. Unacceptable principles. Blowing the whistle. Pointing at others to get off charges. People unable to relate. The “Romeo and Juliet” story. Feeling caught out. Restrictions. Karma to be worked out. Being framed. Circumstances out of control. People in handcuffs. Identification parades. Police. The law. Lawyers. Judges. Juries. Tribunals. Police states. Breaking laws.

The Caution: Refusing to conform. Sabotage of relationship values. Feeling stuck, unable to move. Staying in relationships when one should go. Deadening emotions. Shutting off to cope. Not having one’s point of view heard. Losing one’s authority. Being bound karmically. Being tied up and limited.

The Moon's south node is on Aries 19: A Magic Carpet Hovers Over The Depressing Reality Of Everyday Life In An Industrial Suburb. Rising above difficulties can be the key thing for this placement, but, as it's the south node, perhaps we have to stand square and face what is really going on, rather than opting out or losing the plot, or trying to escape the realities facing us.

Keywords: Practicing meditation. Finding a vehicle for transcendence. Elevated views and perspectives. Rising above problems. Astral travel. Meditation or levitation. Lateral thinking —‘Magic Carpets’ travel sideways. Rugs, carpets, the Middle East. Fantasy and fiction. Transcending worries. Escaping the depressing realities of the everyday world.

The Caution: Self defeating detachment. Not being able to cope with the real world. Losing one’s self completely in flights of fancy. The longing for escape. The lure of the exotic. Using drugs or alcohol in order to escape drudgery or difficulties. Smog. Filthy air. Feeling stuck. Pollution and muck. Industrial landscapes. Losing touch with the body and physical realities.

Well, that's all big. I feel that some, or all, of these Symbols will play out on the world stage - politically and militarily. How they will play out in our own lives really rests with our own situations and consciousness... it's looking like a very interesting time ahead.
